Cosmetic Doc
Surgical Technology & Our Accredited Facility
Precise results begin long before surgery day. At Cosmetic Doc, 3D imaging, digital surgical planning, and an on-site AAAHC-accredited surgery center help Dr. Husam Elias plan with accuracy, operate with care, and keep your safety and comfort at the center of every procedure.
Technology That Serves the Plan, Not the Other Way Around
Surgical technology at Cosmetic Doc is the set of imaging, planning, and operating-room tools that help Dr. Husam Elias understand your anatomy in detail and carry out your plan with precision. Technology never replaces surgical judgment, but in the right hands it adds clarity: it shows how bone, cartilage, and soft tissue relate to one another, lets your surgeon test ideas before the operating room, and helps you see the reasoning behind every recommendation.
Because Dr. Elias is trained in both cosmetic surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery, he uses these tools the way a surgeon of the facial skeleton would, looking beneath the skin at the framework that shapes your features.
Imaging & Surgical Planning
Careful planning is one of the most important safety and quality measures in surgery. Depending on your procedure, your plan may draw on several of the following:
- 3D CBCT imaging: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a focused 3D scan that shows the bones of the face and jaws in fine detail, typically with a lower radiation dose than a conventional medical CT scan.
- Digital surgical planning: Your images are studied on screen so measurements, proportions, and movements can be mapped out before surgery rather than estimated in the operating room.
- Virtual surgical planning: For corrective jaw surgery and other skeletal cases, the jaws and facial bones can be repositioned virtually, and the plan can guide how each segment is moved during surgery.
- Photographic analysis: Standardized photographs from multiple angles help evaluate facial balance, document your starting point, and guide conversations about realistic goals.
Technology in practice
Where Our Technology Makes a Difference
Each tool is chosen for a specific purpose. Here is how technology supports some of the procedures patients ask about most.
-
3D Imaging & Skeletal Planning
CBCT scans and virtual planning let Dr. Elias study the jaws, chin, and facial bones in three dimensions, which is essential for jaw surgery, facial asymmetry correction, and skeletal contouring.

Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty Instruments
Ultrasonic (piezoelectric) instruments use high-frequency vibration to shape nasal bone precisely while helping protect surrounding soft tissue, which may mean more controlled refinement and a gentler recovery for some patients.

Fat Processing for Grafting
Fat gathered with gentle liposuction is carefully processed and purified before it is reinjected, helping preserve healthy fat cells so natural volume can be restored to the cheeks, temples, lips, and under-eye area.

Laser & Radiofrequency Devices
Energy-based devices deliver controlled light or heat into the skin to encourage collagen renewal, improve texture and tone, and support firmer-looking skin without incisions, either on their own or alongside surgery.

Microneedling
Microneedling creates tiny, controlled channels in the skin to stimulate the body's natural repair process, which may help soften fine lines, acne scarring, and uneven texture with minimal downtime.

Our Accredited Surgical Facilities
Where your surgery happens matters as much as who performs it. Cosmetic Doc offers two accredited surgical settings, so you can have your procedure close to home without compromising on safety standards.
Pasadena Ambulatory Surgery Center
Our Pasadena office houses an on-site ambulatory surgery center accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The center has been accredited since 2020 and has maintained that status through multiple re-accreditation cycles, each involving an independent review of policies, equipment, staffing, and patient care. Dr. Elias serves as its Medical Director, so he oversees the standards in the same rooms where he operates.
Sherman Oaks Surgical Setting
Our Sherman Oaks office is an accredited office-based surgical setting that has served patients from across the Valley since 2013. Select procedures are performed here in a private, comfortable environment.
Anesthesia, Monitoring & Safety
Safety is built into every step, from your first visit to your final follow-up.
- Full anesthesia range: Options include local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, matched to your procedure, health, and comfort.
- Continuous monitoring: Heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and oxygen levels are watched closely throughout surgery and recovery.
- Sterilization standards: Instruments and surgical spaces follow strict sterilization and infection-control protocols.
- Careful patient screening: Your health history, medications, and any needed medical clearance are reviewed before surgery is scheduled.

Questions patients ask
Technology & Facility FAQs
What does AAAHC accreditation mean for my surgery?
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care is an independent organization that reviews outpatient surgery centers for safety, equipment, staffing, and quality of care. Our Pasadena surgery center has been accredited since 2020 and has passed multiple re-accreditation reviews, so it meets recognized national standards for outpatient surgery.
Will I need a 3D CBCT scan before my procedure?
Not every patient does. CBCT imaging is most valuable for procedures involving the facial skeleton, such as jaw surgery, chin surgery, and facial asymmetry correction. Dr. Elias recommends a scan only when it adds meaningful information to your plan, and he will explain what it shows and why it matters.
What types of anesthesia are available at Cosmetic Doc?
We offer the full range of anesthesia: local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia. The right choice depends on the procedure, its length, your health history, and your comfort level. Dr. Elias will discuss the options with you at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
Is surgery performed at the Pasadena or Sherman Oaks office?
Many procedures take place in our AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery center in Pasadena, where Dr. Elias is Medical Director. Select procedures are performed in our accredited office-based surgical setting in Sherman Oaks. At your consultation, our team will explain which location fits your procedure and anesthesia plan.
Does technology replace the surgeon's judgment?
No. Imaging and digital planning give Dr. Elias more detailed information, but decisions about your care still rest on his training, experience, and examination of your anatomy. Technology is a tool that supports precision and communication, helping you understand your plan while your surgeon remains fully responsible for it.
