Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
A Brazilian butt lift uses your own fat, removed by liposuction, to add natural fullness and shape to the buttocks while slimming the waist, hips, or thighs.
Brazilian Butt Lift in Los Angeles
Few procedures reshape the figure as dramatically as a Brazilian butt lift, or BBL. By moving fat from where you do not want it to where you do, a BBL delivers a double benefit: a slimmer waistline and a fuller, shapelier silhouette, all using your own natural tissue. At Cosmetic Doc, Dr. Husam Elias, a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon, performs BBL surgery in a fully accredited surgical setting with safety as the first priority at every step. If you are considering a BBL in the Los Angeles area, we invite you to learn how our approach is different.
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian butt lift is a fat transfer procedure. First, Dr. Elias performs liposuction on donor areas such as the abdomen, flanks, lower back, or thighs. The harvested fat is then purified and carefully injected into the buttocks in precise layers to build rounder, fuller, natural-looking curves. Because the procedure sculpts the surrounding areas at the same time it adds volume, the change in your overall proportions is often greater than either step could achieve alone.
Unlike buttock implants, a BBL uses only your own living tissue. The result looks and feels natural, moves naturally, and carries no risk of implant rupture or replacement down the road.
What About a Skinny BBL?
Slimmer patients often assume they do not have enough fat to qualify. In many cases, a skinny BBL is still possible. Dr. Elias harvests smaller amounts of fat from multiple donor areas and places it strategically to enhance shape and projection in proportion to a petite frame. The goal is refinement and balance rather than dramatic volume.
How We Keep BBL Surgery Safe
The BBL has been the subject of intense safety research, and technique matters enormously. At Cosmetic Doc, your procedure is performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, never delegated, in our AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery center in Pasadena with hospital-grade monitoring. Following current safety guidance, Dr. Elias places fat only above the muscle, in the subcutaneous tissue, and uses controlled instrumentation and careful patient positioning throughout. These modern protocols are the standard of care for fat placement and dramatically reduce the risks associated with older techniques.
What patients gain
Benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift
A BBL is more than a buttock enhancement. It is a full reshaping of your silhouette using your own natural tissue.
-
Use Your Own Fat
Your enhancement comes from your own purified fat cells, not a foreign implant, so results look natural, feel soft, and move the way you do.
-
Slim While You Shape
Liposuction of the waist, flanks, or thighs sculpts the areas around the buttocks, so the fuller shape is matched by a noticeably slimmer frame.
-
Enhance Your Proportions
Dr. Elias designs each transfer around your natural anatomy, creating an hourglass profile that complements your body rather than an exaggerated, one-size-fits-all look.
-
Trust Accredited Safety
Your surgery takes place in an AAAHC-accredited surgery center with modern fat placement protocols, hospital-grade monitoring, and a triple board-certified surgeon leading your care.
-
Keep Long-Term Results
The transferred fat that establishes a blood supply becomes a lasting part of your body, maintaining your new shape for years with a stable weight.
The BBL Experience at Cosmetic Doc
Your BBL begins with a consultation where Dr. Elias evaluates your goals, your available donor fat, and your overall health. Together you will map out which areas to slim and how much fullness to add. On surgery day, the procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia with continuous monitoring and takes about two to four hours, depending on how many donor areas are treated.
It is normal for a portion of the transferred fat to be reabsorbed by the body in the first few months. Dr. Elias accounts for this during surgery, and the fat that remains at around three months is generally yours to keep. Most patients retain the majority of the transferred volume.
What Is BBL Recovery Like?
Recovery has one golden rule: avoid direct pressure on the buttocks while the fat establishes its blood supply. For about two weeks, you will avoid sitting directly on your buttocks, sleep on your stomach or side, and use a BBL pillow that shifts pressure to the thighs whenever sitting is unavoidable. You will also wear a compression garment over the liposuction areas. Most patients return to desk work within one to two weeks with the pillow, resume light activity soon after, and see their results settle over three to six months. We provide detailed instructions and check in with you throughout your healing.

Questions patients ask
Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs
Is a Brazilian butt lift safe?
Safety depends heavily on the surgeon and the setting. At Cosmetic Doc, your BBL is performed by a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon in an AAAHC-accredited surgery center, with fat placed only above the muscle per current safety guidance. These modern protocols have dramatically improved the procedure's safety profile.
How much of the transferred fat survives?
A portion of transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed in the first few months, and most patients retain the majority of the volume placed. Dr. Elias plans for this during surgery. The fat remaining at about three months has established a blood supply and is considered permanent.
Can I get a BBL if I am thin?
Often, yes. A skinny BBL harvests smaller amounts of fat from several donor areas, such as the abdomen, flanks, and thighs, and places it strategically for shape rather than dramatic size. A consultation lets Dr. Elias assess whether you have enough donor fat for your goals.
How long until I can sit down after a BBL?
Plan on avoiding direct sitting pressure for about two weeks so the transferred fat can establish a healthy blood supply. When you must sit, a BBL pillow placed under the thighs keeps pressure off the buttocks. Most patients transition back to normal sitting gradually after that window.
How is a BBL different from butt implants?
A BBL enhances the buttocks with your own purified fat, so results look and feel natural and there is no device to rupture or replace. It also slims the donor areas. Implants add volume with a silicone device and do not offer that contouring benefit.
How much does a Brazilian butt lift cost in Los Angeles?
Cost varies with the number of liposuction donor areas, the volume of fat transferred, the anesthesia plan, and the surgical facility. You will receive a personalized quote at your consultation with Cosmetic Doc, and financing options are available to help make your procedure affordable.
