Forehead Lift

A forehead lift softens deep horizontal lines, relieves a heavy or overhanging forehead, and can reset hairline position, restoring a rested, balanced upper face that matches how you actually feel.

Forehead Lift in Pasadena and Sherman Oaks

Deep horizontal lines, a forehead that feels heavy or overhanging, and a hairline sitting higher or lower than you would like can make your expression read as tired or stern on a day when you feel neither. At Cosmetic Doc, Dr. Husam Elias, MD, DMD, FACS, treats the forehead as one unit of the upper face rather than a list of separate complaints. As a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery, he understands the face from the bone outward, not just skin deep, which is why forehead results tend to look rested rather than operated on.

What Is a Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift addresses the entire forehead: the skin and muscle that create deep horizontal creases, the soft tissue weight that can leave the forehead heavy, and the position of the frontal hairline itself. Over time the muscles that pull downward work against the ones that lift, the deeper support layers descend, and repeated expression etches lines that no longer smooth out at rest.

During surgery, Dr. Elias releases those deep attachments, adjusts the muscles responsible for the strongest horizontal creases, and resets the forehead tissue at a natural height. Because the hairline travels with the forehead flap, the procedure can also correct a hairline that has crept back over the years or one that has always sat high.

A forehead lift is often confused with a brow lift, and the two do overlap. A brow lift repositions the eyebrows and relieves hooding at the eyes, while a forehead lift addresses the whole forehead unit, including its lines and hairline position. The two are frequently performed together in a single operation.

What Are the Forehead Lift Techniques?

Dr. Elias selects the approach based on your hairline height, hair density, forehead length, and the depth of your lines. Each technique affects the hairline differently, which is the main reason the choice matters.

  • Endoscopic: Several short incisions are hidden behind the hairline and a small camera guides release of the deep tissue. Scars stay concealed in the hair and hairline position changes very little.
  • Pretrichial or trichophytic: The incision sits at the frontal hairline, or just behind it so hair can grow through the healed scar. Because skin is removed in front of the hairline, this approach can lower a high hairline and shorten a long forehead.
  • Coronal: The incision runs across the crown, well back in the hair. It allows broad access and strong correction for heavy foreheads, but it removes scalp and may raise the hairline, so it suits patients whose forehead is already short.

Planning is supported by detailed photographic analysis, so you can see how each option would change your proportions before you decide.

What Is Recovery Like After a Forehead Lift?

Most forehead lifts take one to two hours under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia in an accredited surgical setting. Expect swelling and bruising across the forehead and around the eyes that peaks in the first few days, along with temporary numbness or itching behind the incision as nerves recover. Most patients return to desk work within a week, feel socially presentable at about two weeks, and resume vigorous exercise at three to four weeks.

Questions patients ask

Forehead Lift FAQs

How is a forehead lift different from a brow lift?

A brow lift focuses on eyebrow position and the hooding it can create at the upper eyelids. A forehead lift treats the whole forehead unit: deep horizontal lines, heaviness across the brow region, and hairline position. Many patients benefit from both, and Dr. Elias often performs them together.

Will a forehead lift change my hairline?

It can, and for many patients that is the point. An endoscopic approach leaves hairline position largely unchanged. A pretrichial incision can lower a high hairline and shorten a long forehead. A coronal incision may raise the hairline, so it is chosen selectively for shorter foreheads.

Where will the scars be located?

Incisions are placed within the hair or right at the hairline, depending on the technique. Endoscopic and coronal scars stay hidden in the hair, while a trichophytic closure allows hair to grow through the healed line. Scars typically mature and fade considerably over the first year.

How long do forehead lift results last?

Results are long lasting because the deeper support layers are repositioned rather than the skin alone. Most patients enjoy a refreshed upper face for many years. Aging continues afterward, so sun protection and consistent skin care help preserve what surgery achieves.

How much does a forehead lift cost in Los Angeles?

Cost depends on the technique selected, the level of anesthesia, facility time, and whether you combine the forehead with other facial procedures. We provide a personalized quote at your consultation and offer financing options, so you understand the full investment before scheduling surgery.
