Neck Lift
A neck lift removes loose, sagging skin, tightens muscle banding, and reduces double chin fullness to restore a smooth, defined jawline and a youthful neck contour.
Refine Your Neck and Jawline
Few things age the face faster than the neck. Loose, crepey skin, vertical banding, and stubborn fullness under the chin can create a turkey neck or double chin even when the rest of the face still looks youthful. At Cosmetic Doc, Dr. Husam Elias, MD, DMD, FACS, performs neck lift surgery for patients throughout Sherman Oaks, Pasadena, and greater Los Angeles. As a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon who understands the face from the bone outward, Dr. Elias knows how the jaw, chin, and neck structures work together, and he shapes each neck lift to restore a clean, defined angle between the jawline and neck.
What Is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that tightens the platysma muscle, removes or repositions excess fat, and trims loose skin to smooth and redefine the neck. Depending on your anatomy, your neck lift may include:
- Platysmaplasty: Through a small incision hidden under the chin, Dr. Elias tightens the paired platysma muscles, correcting the vertical cords that appear when the muscle edges separate with age.
- Submental liposuction: Precise neck liposuction removes stubborn fat beneath the chin and along the jawline, an effective answer to a double chin in patients with good skin tone.
- Cervicoplasty: Excess, sagging skin is trimmed through discreet incisions tucked around and behind the ears, eliminating the loose folds of a turkey neck.
Jowls and neck laxity usually develop together, so many patients achieve the most balanced result when a neck lift is combined with a facelift, rejuvenating the cheeks, jawline, and neck as one continuous unit. Dr. Elias will tell you honestly whether the neck alone is the right target.
What patients gain
Benefits of a Neck Lift
A neck lift is one of the most transformative facial procedures we perform. Here is why patients across Pasadena and Sherman Oaks choose it.
-
Eliminate the Turkey Neck
Removing loose, hanging skin and tightening the underlying muscle smooths the neck and restores the taut contour that gradually disappears with age.
-
Reduce a Double Chin
Submental liposuction and fat contouring slim persistent fullness under the chin that often resists even dedicated diet and exercise efforts.
-
Smooth Vertical Banding
Platysmaplasty repairs the separated muscle edges that create cord-like neck bands, producing a smoother surface both at rest and in motion.
-
Define Your Jawline
Recreating a crisp angle between the jaw and neck sharpens your profile in photographs, on video calls, and from every angle in between.
-
Keep Scars Discreet
Incisions are hidden under the chin and within the natural creases around the ears, so they typically fade to nearly imperceptible lines.
-
Balance Your Whole Face
Performed alone or with a facelift, a neck lift restores harmony between the lower face and neck for a naturally refreshed appearance.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
The best candidates are people in good general health who are bothered by loose neck skin, visible muscle bands, or fullness beneath the chin that diet and exercise never touch. Age matters far less than tissue quality. Patients in their forties often need only muscle tightening and liposuction, while those in their sixties and beyond typically benefit from skin removal as well.
Skin elasticity is the single most useful predictor of your result. Skin with reasonable spring redrapes smoothly along the new contour, while heavily sun-damaged skin may limit how crisp the final angle can be. A recessed or small chin is worth discussing too, because it can make an otherwise good neck look fuller than it is, and adding chin projection often sharpens the profile more than neck surgery alone.
Non-smokers, or patients willing to stop several weeks before and after surgery, heal considerably better. If your goals are realistic and your health is stable, you are likely a strong candidate, and Dr. Elias will confirm that in person.
The Neck Lift Experience at Cosmetic Doc
Your neck lift begins with a detailed consultation, where Dr. Elias assesses your skin quality, fat distribution, muscle banding, and the position of the underlying bone. We use detailed photographic analysis and digital surgical planning to design a personalized approach. Surgery is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia with hospital-grade monitoring in our accredited surgical settings, including our Sherman Oaks office, which has served San Fernando Valley patients since 2013.
Most patients go home the same day wearing a soft, supportive chin strap. Swelling and bruising typically improve substantially within ten to fourteen days, and many patients return to work in about one to two weeks. A refined, natural-looking neck contour continues to emerge over the following months as swelling fully resolves.
How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?
Because every neck is different, cost is determined by your individual surgical plan, including:
- Technique: Whether your plan includes platysmaplasty, neck liposuction, skin removal, or all three.
- Anesthesia: IV sedation and general anesthesia carry different fees.
- Facility: Accredited surgical facility fees are built into your quote.
- Combined procedures: Pairing a neck lift with a facelift or chin enhancement affects the total investment.
You will receive a personalized quote at your consultation, and financing options are available.

Questions patients ask
Neck Lift FAQs
How much does a neck lift cost?
Neck lift pricing depends on whether your plan includes muscle tightening, neck liposuction, skin removal, or a combination, along with anesthesia and facility fees. Cosmetic Doc provides a personalized quote after your examination, and financing options are available to help fit the procedure into your budget.
Can liposuction alone fix my double chin?
Sometimes. Submental liposuction works well for younger patients with good skin elasticity, because the skin can retract smoothly after fat is removed. If you have loose skin or muscle banding, liposuction alone may leave sagging behind, and Dr. Elias may recommend adding platysmaplasty or skin tightening.
How long is recovery after a neck lift?
Most patients wear a supportive chin strap for the first week and return to work within one to two weeks, once swelling and bruising have faded. Strenuous exercise typically resumes at three to four weeks. Your neck contour continues to refine over the following several months.
Will a neck lift leave visible scars?
Incisions are placed under the chin and within the natural creases around and behind the ears, where they are difficult to see even up close. Most patients find their scars fade to thin, pale lines within a year, and our team guides you through scar care during healing.
How long do neck lift results last?
A neck lift typically lasts ten years or more. The neck continues to age naturally, but the tightened muscle and removed skin do not return to their previous state. Maintaining a stable weight and protecting your skin from sun exposure helps preserve your results even longer.
Do I need a neck lift or a facelift?
If your concerns are limited to loose neck skin, banding, or a double chin, a neck lift alone may be enough. If jowls and sagging cheeks bother you as well, combining it with a facelift often gives the most balanced result. Dr. Elias will give you an honest recommendation.
